BSR-CommSuites-Detachment Manager (Shipboard) - Job Code: XXX

Job Summary:

Serves as liaison between the detachment, the Squadron Commander and the Ships Master. Must have management skills that will allow him/her to properly accomplish duties to coordinate, manage, supervise and track duties and work of the communications detachment. The duties of the Detachment Manager may be performed concurrently with other contract functions so long as they do not interfere with his/her management duties. On rare occasions this person may be required to perform the duties of a technical representative when his/her flag ship has returned to the US for communications overhaul/groom repairs. This type of work may occur every three years.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supervise and train the detachment personnel in the operation of the squadron communications suite and report to the Commodore or CSO for operational issues, and to the program manager for contract administrative actions.

    Management Responsibilities:

  • Individual would be responsible for supervising a communications detachment of 5 personnel, in support of the deployed U.S. Naval staff and would report to the Commodore or CSO of the respective squadron for all operational situations. The Detachment Manager would report to the program manager for all contract administrative requirements. All work would be performed aboard the deployed flagship.

    Knowledge & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Navy Radio Communications
  • Knowledge in Detachment Management standards and practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in management of Communication personnel.
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for what he or she does.
  • Technical knowledge of Communication Suites
  • Detailed oriented with a tenacious focus on results.
  • High level of self confidence, flexibility, integrity and honesty

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work under pressure and continuously deliver customer service.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to shipboard.
  • Would be assigned to one of three U.S. Navy afloat prepositioned squadrons assigned to the Mediterranean, Pacific or Indian Ocean.
  • The normal tour of duty is four months, but this can vary depending on operational needs.
  • Top Secret Clearance required.

    Experience Required:

  • 5+ years relevant experience (U. S. Navy Radio Communications).
  • Experience working with senior military leaders (up to a Commodore) or in working in a U.S. Navy communications environment.

    Education Required:

  • Management training or certifications desired.
  • Prior Navy communications training – any and all courses taken while on active duty would apply
  • A senior Navy enlisted (E-6/7/8/9) with strong communications background would be the ideal candidate.

    Travel:

  • Ability to travel shipboard anywhere between Mediterranean, Pacific or Indian Ocean.
